Timberland is an offshoot of a family run shoe co. that thrived for three generations making cutprice footwear. They started as Abington Shoe, creating shoes for other makers. But in the early 70's they designed a rugged waterproof, insulated boot and set up a subsidiary to produce it, under the brand name Timberland. By 1978 more than 80% of their output was Timberlands. They stopped manufacturing for others, and have not looked back. The result was the Timberland yellow boot. Walk five miles in a river, and your feet would continue dry in Timberlands.
